Independent Party Canada

Meet the Founder

I am Jason Draper, the founder and chairman of the Independent Party. I was born in Edmonton and raised in Calgary and Victoria, and am now residing in Courtenay BC. I have been married for nearly 20 years, and we have eight wonderful children. I mention that because that is one of the primary reasons I am dedicated to running for parliament -- for the future of my children -- as well as yours. I currently work overtime running two businesses as an entrepreneur to support my family in the face of the ever increasing tax grabs and compound interest payments hitting our family from all directions. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about.

I am a proponent of Life, Liberty and Property, a triad stolen from the writings of Frédéric Bastiat. As Bastiat said:

"Life, faculties, production — in other words, individuality, liberty, property — this is man. And in spite of the cunning of artful political leaders, these three gifts from God precede all human legislation, and are superior to it. Life, liberty, and property do not exist because men have made laws. On the contrary, it was the fact that life, liberty, and property existed beforehand that caused men to make laws in the first place. "

I also agree firmly with Abraham Lincoln: "I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts." -- Abraham Lincoln

In this case, the profound but not always obvious fact is that governments do not make men, but men make governments. Governments are supposed to protect equal rights, not run around like the unliked kid in the school playground who becomes popular only for a day because he brought a brown paper bag filled with candy. Yet such is the role all factory politicians take on today, passing back a few candies to the masses to maintain their popularity and the prosperity of their corporate buddies.

My message is to quit voting in fear. Quit voting "strategically", there is no such thing. Quit casting a corporate vote by wasting your vote on men and women who don't care about you and your family as exemplified by their actions -- no matter what comes out of their mouths. Stand up for what is right no matter what the cost and no matter how bleak the potential outcome looks.
